£17m star says he would love England return, amid Tottenham talks and Arsenal interest

Barcelona forward has told Dutch outlet Voetbal Primeur – as per The Express – that he would love to return to the Premier League amid reports that Tottenham have been in talks to sign him.

Memphis Depay, 28, has just finished his first season at Barcelona. Moving to the Nou Camp from Lyon last summer, he signed a two-year deal with the La Liga giants. But injury limited him to just 37 outings, scoring 13 goals.

Now, he is in the final 12 months of his contract. Reports claim that Tottenham have asked about 80-time Netherlands star while in talks to land Clement Lenglet on a loan-to-buy basis. Barcelona will cash in, for £17m.

The ex-Manchester United forward is also a target for Arsenal. Asked about his future and a possible return to the Premier League, Depay says he would love to play football in England’s top tier again.

“It’s a very nice competition,” Depay explained, while talking to Dutch site Voetbal Primeur. He goes on to say there is interest from a Premier League club: “It’s up to the club that is interested.”

DEPAY WOULD LOVE PREMIER LEAGUE RETURN AMID TOTTENHAM TALKS

Should Tottenham sign Depay? Well, there are a few issues. His wages are likely to be big, even at Barcelona. Of course, his injury concerns should be an issue for Tottenham – and do they even need him?

Spurs have brought in Richarlison, but they could do with another attacker as Steven Bergwijn closes in on a move to Ajax. Depay is similar to Richarlison, in that he can play up front or out wide – even as a number 10.

But the positives are that Depay is in the prime of his career. Experienced at the top level and will be keen to play regularly and well with the World Cup incoming. Versatile in attack, and with unfinished business in England.
