Shakhtar Donetsk star could genuinely help Arsenal win the Premier League and in our view, Edu Gaspar must go all out for him in January.
Arsenal have put themselves in a brilliant position after an impressive start to the new campaign. Mikel Arteta’s men currently sit top of the Premier League and five points above the champions Manchester City.
Their early season form has been near-flawless, with their only defeat coming at Old Trafford, while they also dropped two points against Southampton.
But the biggest test for the Gunners lies ahead as they aim to keep pace with Pep Guardiola’s side over the second-half of the campaign. And after Gabriel Jesus picked up an injury earlier this month, it’s absolutely vital that they back Arteta in the January window.
Arsenal have been linked to some huge names ahead of next month, with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Joao Felix being mentioned as possible targets. But the lesser-known Mudryk is a player that could help them mount a serious assault on City’s two-year reign as champions.
Arsenal must go all out for Mudryk
Mudryk has been making a name for himself after his brilliant displays in the Champions League for Shakhtar. But while he isn’t a household name like Ronaldo or Felix, he arguably fits Arteta’s side a whole lot better.
The Ukrainian winger managed to net three goals and provide two assists before Shaktar were knocked out in the group stage in Europe this season.
He’s also been impressing in the Ukrainian league, having scored 10 goals and provided eight assists in 18 appearances.
Shakhtar’s director of football Darijo Srna has stated that he wants at least £86m for the exciting left-winger. But with the Athletic reporting that Mudryk is ‘desperate’ to join Arsenal and the Ukrainian side could accept a lower fee, Edu needs to do everything within his power to make the deal happen.
The Gunners’ lack of quality depth across the front-three is apparent. In the event that Bukayo Saka or Gabriel Martinelli picked up an injury, they’d be in a worse position than they are right now after Jesus’ setback.
While Eddie Nketiah doesn’t provide the same level of quality as the Brazilian, he showed he can perform in Arteta’s side last season.
CBS journalist Ben Jacobs has claimed that Mudryk loves how Arsenal play and that Arteta believes he can make him a more versatile player. With that in mind, the youngster could fill in for Jesus.
Signing Mudryk would also give Arteta the opportunity to play Martinelli up-front and the Brazilian seems to possess the required qualities to play as a number nine.
It’s going to be vital for Arsenal that they have the strength in depth to deal with injuries if they are going to compete for the title. And if Edu brings Mudryk to the Emirates in January, it will allow Arteta to rotate his front-three more effectively.
