Bid accepted – £70m star have finally agreed to join Man Utd, personal terms is not the problem as player have already given Ten Hag go ahead
According to reports, Premier League giants Man Utd are preparing to submit a ‘final improved’ bid to Chelsea for England international Mason Mount.
The 24-year-old is out of contract next year and it has been indicated in recent months that he does not intend to sign a new deal.
Liverpool were heavily linked with Mount ahead of this summer but they have been put off by Chelsea’s reported £70m asking price.
The Reds have instead signed Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton and they are now said to be pursuing Nice’s Khephren Thuram.
Before Liverpool turned their attention away from Mount, it was revealed that he is ‘leaning towards’ a move to Man Utd.
The Red Devils have already had a £40m bid rejected for the midfielder and The Mirror are reporting that Man Utd are ‘preparing their final offer’ for Mount ‘but still far off Chelsea’s valuation’. They are apparently ‘ready to make an improved bid of £50m’.
‘Chelsea value Mount at £70m’ but ‘United feel their valuation of £50m is far more realistic’. It is said that this offer is ‘likely to be Man Utd’s last’ so the ‘pressure’ will now be on the Londoners ‘to either accept or risk Mount entering the final year of his contract and potentially leaving for nothing next summer’.
And Fichajes are reporting that Man Utd ‘are preparing’ to pull off ‘the robbery of the century’, which is certainly a huge (and dramatic) exaggeration.
They back up the report from The Mirror and state that Man Utd will ‘enhance their offer for Mount to £50m’.
The Chelsea star’s ‘versatility’ has ‘caught the attention’ of Erik ten Hag, who feels Mount can ‘bring a different dimension to United’s attack’.
Man Utd legend Andy Cole has questioned why his former club are trying to sign Mount from Chelsea.
“Would Manchester City look to bring in a player like Mason Mount to make them better? You’ve got to look at players and say, right, would Man City try and buy this player? Because if you’re going to close the gap, you can’t be buying players that are not going to improve you,” Cole told Punters.Pub.
“That’s the way I look at things. For Mount not to be getting into the Chelsea team, you have to think why that is. Because it’s not as if Chelsea are pulling up any trees to keep hold of him.”
