Manchester United are still in talks with Feyenoord over a deal for Justin Bijlow in case a deal for Andre Onana collapses.
David De Gea confirmed his Manchester United departure on Saturday, signalling a changing of the guard in goal.
A deal to make Inter Milan stopper Andre Onana appears to be moving closer and closer.
Fabrizio Romano claims that the deal is now just a ‘matter of days’ away from being done.
Romano believes that United’s next bid for Onana will now be accepted and documents will be exchanged in the middle of the week.
The Italian adds that Onana has already agreed terms with United, meaning the Cameroon international is now closing in on a move to Manchester.
This would be a reunion for Onana and United boss Erik ten Hag, who previously worked together at Ajax.
A superb goalkeeper in terms of playing out from the back, Onana seems to be a better fit for United’s new direction than De Gea.
United aren’t over the line with Onana just yet though and there is an alternative target in the works.
Manchester United still discussing Justin Bijlow move
The Mirror report that United are still in talks with Dutch champions Feyenoord over a deal for their goalkeeper Justin Bijlow.
The 25-year-old emerged as a prime United target last weekend as a deal for Onana seemed to be in doubt.
United haven’t backed away though and have allegedly continued negotiations for Bijlow just in case Onana doesn’t arrive.
Bijlow is a Rotterdam-born, boyhood Feyenoord fan who won’t leave De Kuip for just any offer.
United would be the kind of offer to tempt Bijlow away but Onana is clearly the priority for Ten Hag and co.
Dean Henderson’s expected move to Nottingham Forest may leave United needing two goalkeepers, but Bijlow surely wouldn’t take being second choice.
United face a nervy few days trying to get this Onana deal over the line, but it’s great to hear that contingency plans are already in place rather than seeing United scramble around in a worst case scenario.
