Stevie Nicol has called for Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal to look for a replacement for Gabriel Jesus after he suffered another injury.
The Liverpool legend told ESPN that Gabriel Jesus’ most recent setback, which has seen him have an operation, should put those inside Arsenal ‘on alert’ – Kieran Gibbs was also clear on what he thought.
The Brazil international was injured during the 2022 World Cup last season and he ended up missing several months of action.
A number of weeks ago, prior to yet another knee injury setback, the £45 million signing (Sky Sports) even claimed that he was still ‘suffering’ from that moment last year
Well, since then, that knee issue has caused him problems again, which required surgery, and he is now going to miss the start of the new Premier League campaign.
As a result, Nicol thinks this is becoming an issue and he should be replaced during the 2023 summer transfer market by a new face coming through the doors.
“I think the fact that he is having another op so soon after having the last one would make you sort of be on alert that this could be an on-going problem,” said Nicol.
“You have to cover your basics. I would suggest that yes, you should be on the lookout for a replacement and if something comes along that comparable or better, then you try to get them in.”
Arsenal’s options instead of Jesus
From Kai Havertz, who started the Community Shield against Manchester City, to Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard.
Arteta still has options up top, not forgetting Eddie Nketiah and Folarin Balogun, whose future is up in the air after he hit 21 goals in Ligue 1 last season.
If Arsenal were to replace Jesus, then they might have to get rid of somebody first.
