Wednesday morning done deal: Man united complete the signing of £50m Defender after late swoop, MEDICAL is today as player set to be announced as Ten Hag’s 6th signing before FRIDAY deadline day
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Manchester United have set their sights on AS Roma defender Leonardo Spinazzola. United are looking for a left-back in the closing days of the transfer window and have a number of targets on their list.
United Contact Roma to Inquire About Spinazzola
Spinazzola is the latest name to emerge in the Red Devils’ quest to acquire a left-back before the end of the transfer window. Di Marzio revealed on his website that United have inquired about the player.
There are no reports of any negotiations taking place yet, and the 20-time Premier League champions want to be informed about the player in case they decide to pursue the Italian international in the final days of the transfer window. The 30-year-old is the latest addition to the list of players United are targeting – as a short-term solution to their left-back woes.
United are currently without a left-back in the senior squad after a muscle problem for Luke Shaw has sidelined him for a considerable period of time, and Tyrell Malacia is also out with an injury. There are multiple options the club is evaluating in order to cover the left full-back position. Marc Cucurella of Chelsea, Sergio Reguilon of Tottenham, and Barcelona’s Marcos Alonso are the players being considered.
Nicolas Tagliafico is a name that emerged recently – and according to the latest reports, Manchester United are advancing with the deal and have already sent an offer for a loan deal to Olympique Lyon.
What Kind of Player Is Spinazzola?
The Italian full-back is a rare example of a right-footed player playing as a left-back. The former Juventus man’s athleticism and physical traits are two of his biggest assets. He is quick and a robust presence for a full-back.
The “electrifying” player’s dribbling ability and tendency to make attacking runs on the left flank make him a real threat going forward. The prospect of seeing him link up with Marcus Rashford, will undoutedley excite the Old Trafford faithful. In addition to their pace it will bring more fluidity to the attack, with Spinazzola racing up the left wing, it will enable Rashford to drift in field and continue his goalscoring exploits from last season.
The defensive side of the game is where he sometimes struggles. However, the Roma man makes up for this by being a real asset in attack.
