‘Unbelievable’: Campbell thinks Arsenal 21-year-old will become a real star this season
Arsenal legend Kevin Campbell has tipped William Saliba to win the club’s Player of the Season award next year.
The 21-year-old is back at the Emirates Stadium and expected to be in the first-team picture this season.
Saliba enjoyed a fruitful stint on on loan at Marseille last season, making 51 appearances including 36 in Ligue 1.
The Arsenal talent’s efforts saw him win the Ligue 1 Young Player of the Year award and also make the team of the season.
Prior to his Marseille stint, Saliba spent time at Saint-Etienne and Nice.
Arsenal fans have had to be patient since the Frenchman joined the Gunners back in 2019.
Now, they could finally start seeing Saliba in competitive action for their side.
And Campbell, speaking on Highbury Squad – via the Evening Standard – believes he’ll hit the ground running for Arsenal.
Indeed, the Gunners icon reckons Saliba will leapfrog Ben White in the central defence pecking order.
When asked to pick his Player of the Season, Campbell replied: “Do you know what guys, I’m going to go for Saliba.
“I see a different defence with him and Gabriel in it.
“I know Ben White did a fantastic job next season, I can’t deny that, but I think with these two at the back, at times we may play a three.
“This guy, Van Dijk with his experience is a Rolls Royce, but this guy has to be a top of the range Bentley hasn’t he? He’s been unbelievable.”
