‘I will end their winning streak, and I promise them that’: Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino sends strong premier league message to Arteta ahead of their CLASH
Mauricio Pochettino believes Cole Palmer as brought what Chelsea need ahead of their match against Arsenal. The deadline day signing from Manchester City has a perfect record in Chelsea colours when he has started the game, with wins over Brighton, Fulham and Burnley.
The 21-year-old scored his first goal for the Blues when handed the responsibility from the penalty spot against the Clarets, to cap off a solid start to his career at Stamford Bridge having also picked up two assists in the short time he has been with the club.
Pochettino highlighted the freedom Palmer has been provided despite being placed on the right and cited his unpredictable nature as a key asset in Chelsea’s attack. His positioning saw Raheem Sterling on the left against Burnley, where the 28-year-old thrived as he was involved in each of the Blues four goals. It would appear Pochettino now has to manage a serious amount of competition on the wings given Mykhailo Mudryk’s improving form too.
Pochettino told the official Chelsea website: “In the midfield area they start to connect and get a good link. Cole Palmer is also a good player who links with his teammates. We are giving him the starting position on the right but we give him the freedom to play between the lines because he’s ready to read what the team needs and to be unpredictable because football is a game that is unpredictable and he has the capacity to be like this.”
While the international break is well underway, and Pochettino has less of his squad to work with than he would like, Arsenal await in nine days time. It is a clash that Chelsea’s head coach is looking forward to and hopes will allow him to assess where his team is at.
He said: “We are going to play against a very good team, a team that in the last few years are building a very good squad and a very good coach. I know very well Mikel is a very good friend and they are doing a fantastic job .
It is a team that is ready now to compete for big tings that is why it is an exciting challenge to compete with them. We are in a different process, in a different time but I think it is important to see our players, how they are going to compete with a team that is more mature.”
