He wanted to join Arsenal last summer but I blocked the deal now He is begging me to let Him join Arsenal again’: Aston villa boss Unai Emery confessed His favorite player in the team is set to join Arsenal in January after having one on one talk with Him
Arsenal were incredibly busy last January, and it sounds as though they could be making moves in the winter once again.
Indeed, the Gunners have been linked with a new striker in the shape of Ivan Toney, and now, it also looks as though a new midfielder is on the agenda.
Fabrizio Romano has named Douglas Luiz as Arsenal’s top January transfer target, and, by the sounds of things, Arsenal aren’t wasting time in making this move.
According to Football Transfers, the Gunners have already made their first move in terms of bringing Luiz to the club, reporting that the north London club have already asked Aston Villa what it would take to get the £15m midfielder to the Emirates halfway through the season.
As you can imagine, Aston Villa aren’t too keen to sell one of their prized assets halfway through a season where a top four push looks like a real possibility, and it would probably take a mammoth fee to land the Brazilian at this juncture.
However, as Arsenal have shown over the past 12 months, if there’s a player they desperately want, they’re willing to splash the cash.
Although, with that being said, after spending over £200m in the summer and also scouring the market for a new striker, it’s hard to imagine that they will have the capital available to the to force Villa’s hand here.
Of course, Arsenal have surprised us in the transfer market before, so don’t write off the idea of this one happening, but Unai Emery certainly won’t want to do his former club any favours by selling Luiz to a team that are increasingly being seen as direct rivals.
It does sound as though Arsenal will push for Luiz, but whether or not they actually get anywhere remains to be seen.
