Manchester United signed off for the November international break with a narrow 1-0 win over Luton Town at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.
Victor Lindelof was the unlikely hero, netting the only goal of the game just before the hour mark. He lashed the ball home from close range after the Hatters failed to clear a corner.
The win, which was United’s second in as many Premier League matches, lifted them up to sixth, one point ahead of Newcastle United, who lost 2-0 to Bournemouth later in the day. They are, at the time of writing, three points shy of fourth-placed Liverpool, who face Brentford on Sunday afternoon.
Though the outcome of Sunday’s games will provide a clearer picture of the state of play as we head into the third international break of the season so far, United can take comfort from the fact they have signed off for the pause with four wins in their last five league games. It means they will be expected to kick on following the restart later this month.

Verdict: United’s next six fixtures feature a variety of different challenges, particularly on their travels. Four of the Reds’ next six are away from home, featuring trips to fellow top-four hopefuls Newcastle and Liverpool.
United lost their visits to St James’ Park and Anfield last season, shipping a combined total of nine goals in the process. The Reds have struggled at Anfield, in particular, in recent years.
It means there will be huge pressure on them to scoop maximum points from the clashes with Everton and Bournemouth. Chelsea and West Ham United will also pose stern tests.
