That’s according to talkSPORT who report that Arsenal’s long-standing interest in Neves could be helped by a new proposed Premier League rule.
Clubs are expected to vote in favour of blocking clubs from loaning players within their own ownership group next week.
And given Neves’ Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal are owned by the the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund, as are Newcastle, a loan would then be impossible.
The report details that Edu Gaspar is a long-term admirer of Neves, who has often been linked with Arsenal in the past.
It seems increasingly as if Arsenal are aware that they can no longer rely on the services of Thomas Partey moving forwards.
Despite his brilliance, Partey is simply injured far too often.
And with existing links to Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz, who would be a very sensible signing, it’s clear that Arsenal do have options.
Either Luiz or Neves, who share a similar profile, would be a huge addition for Arteta at Arsenal, who needs added quality in his midfield.
Arsenal would be well advised to deliver Ruben Neves to Arteta in January:
It would certainly be exciting for Arsenal fans to see Neves back in the Premier League at the Emirates, a player who many feel has unfinished business.
And at 26-years-old, the Portuguese international still has some excellent years ahead.
Perhaps Arsenal’s biggest obstacle would be if Newcastle decided to seek a permanent deal for the midfielder themselves.
However, much like Arsenal, the club will be aware of their FFP restrictions in the windows to come.
If ‘iconic’ Neves is willing to leave his new side, there’s certainly a massive opportunity for all top clubs across Europe, but it surely will come at a cost.
It remains to be seen just how active Arsenal are in January, a club who has preferred methodical business in the summer.
But should £45m Neves be seen as attainable, it may prove an opportunity too good for Arteta and Arsenal to turn down.
