Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek is edging closer to joining Eintracht Frankfurt on loan during the January transfer window, according to BILD.
The Netherlands international has had a difficult career with the Red Devils and he has played just 62 games for the club since his arrival from Ajax in 2020.
He has managed less than 30 minutes this campaign and it seems only a matter of time before he pursues a new challenge away from the Premier League.
Frankfurt are leading the race to sign the 26-year-old and BILD claim that ‘talks are going well’ but his wages are a potential ‘sticking point’ for Frankfurt.
The Bundesliga outfit are unlikely to afford his €134,000-a-week wages. United will either need to pay part of the salary or Van de Beek has to accept a reduction.
Either way, a deal could materialise in the near future with talks advancing between the clubs.
Van de Beek set for mid-season loan departure
When Erik ten Hag was appointed as United’s manager last year, it was anticipated that Van de Beek could become a pivotal player due to their former association at Ajax.
However, the midfielder has hardly impressed in the playing time offered. He suffered a knee injury at the start of the year and since his recovery, he has been a regular unused substitute.
Ten Hag has also left him out of matchday squads on occasions. The Dutch tactician recently acknowledged that Van de Beek may have to restart his career away from the club.
In our view, a loan deal could be agreed with Frankfurt in the next few days such that the midfielder makes the switch to the Bundesliga as soon as the transfer window reopens.
A good showing in the German top-flight would help United to secure a decent fee next summer.
