Bologna are refusing to sell the Premier League-linked Joshua Zirkzee in January with their stance seemingly blocking Manchester United’s chances of a potential £35 million deal.
According to Fabrizio Romano, a sudden swell of speculation surrounding the future of the one-time Bayern Munich starlet matters little.
No matter how many clubs want him, no matter how many goals he scores or sets up in his red-and-blue shirt, Joshua Zirkzee is going nowhere this month.
According to Sport1, there is interest from Manchester United in the £35 million-rated Dutchman. An elegant, silky centre-forward who combines the physique of Rasmus Hojlund with the touch of Dimitar Berbatov. He has even been likened to Zlatan Ibrahimovic by some, and ‘better’ than Erling Haaland by others.
Zirkzee is under contract for another two years, however, and Bologna are under no immediate pressure to cash in on a player who arrived in Italy hoping to rebuild his reputation after falling out of favour under Julian Nagelsmann at the Bundesliga champions.
A reputation he has restored with a steady stream of stand-out Serie A displays.
Manchester United like Joshua Zirkzee
“Bologna are very clear: Joshua will not leave in January, they guarantee,” Fabrizio Romano explains in his latest Caught Offside column.
Bayern have a buy-back clause in Zirkzee’s contract. Romano, however, insists that no decision will be made regarding a potential return to the Allianz Arena in the winter.
“His former club Bayern Munich will not decide on the buy-back clause now,” the reporter adds. “That’s all a discussion for June, not this January.”
You can probably say the same of Manchester United, in truth.
Former Bayern ace is staying in Serie A
The Red Devils will once again be restricted to bargain buys and short-term loans as they battle with Financial Fair Play concerns, with the temporary exits of Jadon Sancho and Donny van de Beek doing little to free up funds for big-money acquisitions.
Even Serhou Guirassy could be out of United’s reach, despite the inclusion of a £15 million release clause in his contract. Timo Werner, meanwhile, joined Tottenham Hotspur this week and could make his debut for Ange Postecoglou’s side against the Red Devils this weekend.
