Stockport County have reached a full agreement to sign Man United defender Rhys Bennett after a breakthrough in talks, sources have told Football Insider.
It is believed the loan capture of the 20-year-old is likely to be announced today.
The League Two leaders are set to bring Bennett to Edgeley Park following successful negotiations with Man United this month.
Bennett, who plays as a centre-back for the Red Devils, is a product of the club’s academy having joined at Under-10 level.
The Manchester-born ace has made the bench for Erik ten Hag’s senior side on four occasions, including twice this season, but is yet to make his bow for the first team.
Bennett, who missed the first half of 2023 with a serious injury, has turned out eight times for United’s Under-21 side this term.
He has racked up 67 appearances in total for the club’s youth sides, notching three goals and one assist.
The centre-back, 20, is now set for his first senior loan with Stockport – who are targeting promotion to League One just two seasons after coming back to the EFL.
Bennett captained United to FA Youth Cup success in 2022 and was handed a new deal at Old Trafford last July.
The youngster’s new club are in action against Notts County on Saturday (20 January) with a two-point buffer over second-place Wrexham.
Meanwhile, Man United sit seventh in the Premier League and are eight points adrift of the top four.
