Erik ten Hag’s side played so well at times at Villa Park, securing a win at a venue where so many have fallen this season.
And whilst Unai Emery’s side have been slightly slowing down of late after their excellent first half of the season, perhaps ten Hag’s side are heading in the other direction.
There were a lot of positives for United today, with the likes of Alejandro Garnacho again looking exciting on the wing.
Rasmus Hojlund also added another goal to his tally, showing no signs that his purple patch will end just yet.
The Dane is now starting to show the composure to match all of his enthusiasm and rich ability.
And whilst Bruno Fernandes probably has very few complaints with that Man United pair, he was really disappointed with a moment involving Harry Maguire against Villa today.
Despite how imposing Maguire was in his display, assisting Hojlund’s goal, United’s captain simply couldn’t understand a decision in the 61st minute.

Seen during Sky Sports’ live coverage of the game, and pointed out by Gary Neville on commentary, Maguire appeared to pull out of a golden chance.
United were 1-0 up at the time when Fernandes whipped in a delightful ball for Maguire to attack.
However, on this occasion, the £80m defender made a peculiar decision to ignore the chance.
Perhaps Maguire didn’t think he’d reach the ball, but for all those watching it looked like he would.
Fernandes was visibly annoyed, and was probably aware that United still needed another goal to secure three points against an impressive Villa, which the equaliser that followed swiftly proved.
However, Scott McTominay’s trademark goal ultimately still won the game for United on this occasion.
And it really does feel as if this was a performance to build upon.
Perhaps Luke Shaw’s withdrawal at half-time will be the only negative, if the substitution turns out to be injury-related as first thought.
But away from today’s win, Andre Onana has recently praised the skill of a player United once sold.
