Man United to ‘prepare an assault’ to sign 26-year-old defender, though will cost at least £40m – Erik Ten Hag pushing to make the deal done soon
Man United are ready to make their move to try and sign Gleison Bremer from Juventus.
Over the last few days, the Manchester United links with a new centre-back signing have been plentiful.
The Red Devils could be about to lose Raphael Varane this summer, while Victor Lindelof’s future is also far from certain.
As a result, United have been heavily mentioned in regard to bringing in a new centre-back. Matthijs de Ligt is the name that is popping up most.
However, Calciomercato believe Juventus’ Gleison Bremer is atop the Reds’ list at this stage.
They write that United are to ‘prepare an assault’ to sign the 26-year-old defender, while the Turin club are ready to let the Brazilian leave, assuming the right offer comes in.
According to the claim, a fee of at least £60m is needed to convince Juve into selling, while intermediaries have made this ‘clear’ to United.
Bremer is viewed as the ‘most suitable’ candidate for United as we approach a big summer for the Old Trafford club, while Calciomercato remind us that this is not the first time the Reds have been linked with a move to sign this particular player.
There’s no denying Bremer’s talent, ability and experience. However, I’d still much prefer to see the Reds move for someone like De Ligt or even Jarrad Branthwaite. Both feel like a far better fit for the Ten Hag system at this point in time, particularly if you’re planning on spending massive money on a new centre-back.
With a contract until 2028, Juve are under no pressure to sell Bremer, meaning they have every right to charge through the roof for one of their star men. That said, the Serie A club could be in a situation where they have to let one of their prized assets leave.
