Arsenal could potentially have Thomas Partey back from injury and back into the fold against Newcastle United on Saturday night.
On Friday morning, Gunners boss Mikel Arteta claimed that the midfielder was “very close” to returning to action.
Arteta, speaking at his pre-match press conference, said Arsenal would need to get the timing of his return exactly right.
Nonetheless, he seemed optimistic about Partey‘s fitness, telling football.london: “Let’s see. We have another session today (Friday).
“He’s been out for many, many months now. We need to really nail the timing of when he has enough in the tank to compete. But I think he’s very close.”
On Friday evening, Arsenal’s official website posted photos of their latest training session at London Colney. Partey could be seen both in the gym and on the pitches.
Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey edging closer to long-awaited return to action
Partey has not played for the Gunners for over four months now, due to a serious thigh problem which forced him to undergo surgery.
The 30-year-old has not played for Arsenal since 8 October. Meanwhile, his last outing for Ghana was on 18 October. He has made just five appearances for Arteta’s side this season.
Partey had been looking to make his return to action at the start of February, but he sadly suffered an issue “in a very similar area” which has kept him on the sidelines for yet more time.
However, things now look to be on the right track and hopefully it won’t be long before we see him in action. Perhaps even on Saturday.
Indeed, Partey trained with the first-team before the Champions League first-leg defeat at Porto on Wednesday, although did not travel with the squad.
Now, with yet more training under his belt, the ‘fantastic‘ midfielder’s long-awaited return will surely be even closer now.
