DEAL CLOSE: Arsenal have taken advantage of sluggish Man United to hijack Ten Hag ‘very fast’ target- Big loss for United as the player already agreed 100% terms with Arsenal- Player is set to fly to Emirate this week to complete Arsenal medical- Fabrizio Romano confirms

Arsenal are set for a busy summer on the transfer front as Edu and Mikel Arteta look to apply the finishing touches to their squad.

The Gunners have improved massively over the past few years, going from upper mid-table to competing for the Premier League title.

Obviously there’s still some work to do to get Arsenal to the next level, and the Gunners will no doubt be looking to strengthen their ranks.

A new striker is said to be high up on Arsenal’s agenda as they look for an out-and-out No. 9 to convert chances provided by his teammates.

And now, according to a report in Portugal, the Gunners are on the verge of making an “unbelievable” signing for an initial fee of around £76million.

Arsenal set to sign Sporting Lisbon star Viktor Gyokeres
The player in question is Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres, one of the hottest properties in European football right now.

Leonino, a Sporting-dedicated website, has reported that Arsenal are ‘on the verge’ of getting a deal for the Sweden international over the line.

Sporting were initially demanding €100million, which is Gyokeres’ release clause, but the report suggests the two clubs have reached a compromise.

The website writes that Arsenal and the Lions have agreed on an initial fee of €90million (£76million), with performance bonuses which take the overall package to €120million (£101million).

The add-ons are linked to the number of goals, Champions League appearances, and titles that Gyokeres achieves while at Arsenal.

Leonino reported earlier this week that there were just ‘financial details’ holding up the deal between the Gunners and the Lions. These seem to have been overcome.

Arsenal target Gyokeres has ‘everything in his locker’
Back in 2022, Coventry manager Mark Robins told the Coventry Telegraph about Gyokeres: “He is what you see.

“He’s not the finished article by any stretch of the imagination but he has some unbelievable ability – power, technique.

“He has got everything in his locker and that desire and hunger to score goals. And he’s also got a really angry side as well, which he has got to calm a little bit because if it’s not going his way he can get angry with himself and you see it from time to time.”

Two years on, and Gyokeres is certainly a lot closer to the finished article than when he was at Coventry, hence links with the likes of Arsenal.

There are some promising reports emerging on this front, and with any luck they will intensify in the coming weeks, perhaps even days.
