Mikel Arteta says he is ‘delighted’ that ‘important player’ David Raya has completed a permanent move to Arsenal.

The Spaniard’s temporary move from Brentford to north London included an option to sign the goalkeeper permanently for £27m, and after a stunning season at the Emirates – the decision was made to keep hold of the star this summer window.

Raya is Arsenal’s first signing of the summer but Arteta intends to sign a new striker, midfielder and left-back before the start of the 2024-25 season: ‘David showed us last season what an important player he is for us, so we are delighted he is now officially our player,’ Arteta said

‘He is a big presence in our dressing room and we are really pleased to keep working with him.

‘We know he will take the strong foundations he put in place last season and build on them in the years to come, and that he will enjoy more success with us.

‘We have a very talented group of goalkeepers and I love to see connections like the one I see in our goalkeeping unit.’

Raya, meanwhile, said it was a ‘dream come true’ to join ARSENAL on a permanent basis: ‘After a year on loan as a Gunner, I can finally say that I’m an Arsenal player for the coming years,’ Raya said.

‘I’m excited to see what the future holds but always living in and enjoying the present. It’s a dream come true to be here and I want to thank you for all the support you have already given me throughout the last year.’

MURILLO HINT –

Murillo has confirmed he’s subject to interest from Arsenal and even suggested he used his move to Nottingham Forest as a stepping stone.

The Brazilian impressed in his breakthrough campaign at the City Ground and reports have claimed the likes of Arsenal have held initial contact with Forest. However, the £70.7m asking price is said to be too high for them.

ARSENAL will be hoping to get that asking price way down over the next few months as they will need to be careful with the funds they spend this summer because of those Financial Fair Play Rules that are catching alot of clubs out.

Now – amid all the speculation and all the rumours – Murillo has indicated that he would be open to leaving Forest after just one season: “I don’t know if it’s £70m, but I know there was a buzz of interest,” the 21-year-old defender said on the Benja Me Mucho podcast. “So, I don’t know exactly how much the amount is, but I know there was interest.

“I had the dream of playing in the Premier League and I had that thought. I thought: ‘I’ll go to Nottingham Forest, have a good year and then I’ll go to a big club’. I had that in my head.

CALAFIORI AGREEMENT –

Arsenal have reportedly reached an agreement for Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori.

The transfer window will give Mikel Arteta the chance to keep on adding to his squad over the next few months and start to add some more depth to the squad, along with a bit more quality in key areas of the pitch.

A new defender, midfielder, striker and possibly a stopper will need to get signed this summer transfer window – and with the backing of the board – Arsenal have been linked with some big time players already over the past few weeks.

Now – according to Sports Zone. The 22-year-old is now increasingly likely to join ARSENAL this summer. Calafiori had agreed to move to Juventus in May but Bologna are unwilling to let him move to a fellow Serie A side and would prefer him to move abroad.

Chelsea remain in the race to sign the Italy international, as are Paris Saint-Germain and Bayer Leverkusen, but the Gunners are closing in on signing him for around £40million.
