Watkins’ domestic form has been equally impressive. He scored 19 goals and set up another 13 in the Premier League, to fire Aston Villa into the Champions League for the first time since the 1982/83 season. Recognising his value, Aston Villa secured Watkins’ future with a new five-year contract early last season. This move not only rewarded his stellar performances but also safeguarded his market value, now estimated at a staggering €100 million (£85.7 million).

Gallas has made a compelling case for Arsenal to pursue Watkins.
“For Arsenal, I like Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins,” Gallas remarked in an interview with Lord Ping.
“He has the pace you need to have as a striker and with a player like Martin Odegaard in behind him it would just be magnificent, think of all the assists. It’s so difficult to defend against players like Ollie Watkins because he’s so clever with his runs, with Odegaard they would do so much damage. If I was at Arsenal I’d choose him.”
