Man United are still interested in signing Denzel Dumfries from Inter Milan.

Over the last few days, talks about a potential change in the right-back position have come to the fore. Manchester United have been linked with a move to sign Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern Munich, though the general feeling is that the Reds will have to sell before they can buy.

It makes sense then, to sell Aaron Wan-Bissaka, the man who will likely lose his place in the squad if a right-back is signed anyway.

Over the last 24 hours or so, the Daily Mail have thrown a familiar name back into the mix for United; Denzel Dumfries.

According to their latest information, United ‘like’ the 28-year-old full-back. United have even re-visited the possibility of a swap deal between Wan-Bissaka and Dumfries. Talks are not advanced.

Again, it’s reiterated that Ten Hag is now ‘stepping up’ their attempts to add another full-back to the squad, amid concerns about the fitness of both Tyrell Malacia and Luke Shaw.

United are said to have been ‘admirers’ of Dumfries for ‘several years’ now, amid ongoing interest in the Inter player.

Dumfries made 34 appearances across all competitions last season, which is more than Shaw and Malacia made combined.

The issue for United has been keeping players fit. The gaffer wants to avoid a repeat scenario of Victor Lindelof being forced to play as a left-back due to injury issues. A move for someone like Dumfries, who has consistently been fit, would make sense.

However, in pure footballing terms, I’m not sure he’s a huge upgrade on Wan-Bissaka. Dumfries would likely cost more in terms of weekly wage, too.

Honestly, I’m still disappointed Alvaro Fernandez was never given a real chance to impress.
