“He called me and was crying tirelessly to help him when he was almost sacked…But now he has forgotten it, He must sign this payer if he really wants to avoid sacking this coming season”: Paul Scholes urges Erik ten Hag to sign ONE particular player before the transfer window close if he really want to avoid sacking next season

Paul Scholes has raised his concerns over one area that he feels Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag should improve before the summer transfer window closes.

Erik ten Hag’s first-team squad is currently undergoing a serious revamp, including the departure of several players from Old Trafford this summer.

Willy Kambwala, Donny van de Beek and Mason Greenwood are among the Manchester United players who have been sold so far this summer.

Meanwhile, the likes of Anthony Martial and Raphael Varane were allowed to leave Old Trafford at the end of the 2023-24 season after their contracts expired.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos have dipped their hand into United’s war chest and have already strengthened two key areas in Ten Hag’s squad.

United signed Netherlands striker Joshua Zirkzee from Serie A side Bologna this summer, with the Red Devils agreeing a deal worth £36.54m.

The Red Devils also beat Real Madrid in the race to sign French defender Leny Yoro from Ligue 1 side Lille after United agreed an initial fee of £52.18m.

Scholes singles out Man Utd star
Erik ten Hag’s men are heading to the United States for the second leg of their pre-season tour, following their first two matches this summer.

United suffered a 1-0 defeat to Norwegian side Rosenborg before bouncing back last Saturday with a 2-0 victory over Rangers at the Murrayfield Stadium in Scotland.

Ten Hag has been without several first-team players for the pre-season campaign due to the 2024 Copa America in the United States and Euro 2024 in Germany.

Paul Scholes has singled out Rasmus Hojlund and insisted that it was a “little bit unfair” how much United relied on the Danish forward alone last season.

Rasmus Hojlund arrived at Old Trafford last summer from Atalanta and the 21-year-old United striker failed to score in his first 14 Premier League matches.

“When I think about Manchester United, I think about brilliant centre-forwards,” Scholes told Sky Sports, as per the Metro.

“I think they’ve had one young one last year in Rasmus Hojlund who they have had to rely on and it was a little bit unfair. He’s a young player, still learning the game.”

Scholes wants ‘proven’ Man Utd signing
Scholes welcomed the signing of Joshua Zirkzee to help ease the reliance on United star Rasmus Hojlund for the 2024-25 season.

However, the United legend admitted that the Red Devils need a “proven” signing in the attacking area and somebody who can have a “successful next year.”

“They’ve bought another young one [Zirkzee]… I would like to see an experienced centre-forward come and help with that and virtually guarantee goals,” Scholes continued.

“Whether that man is out there, I don’t know. But I think they need somebody who is proven and somebody who is proven and go on and be successful next year.”
