Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has been spotted out and about in Manchester with rival Manchester City player Joao Cancelo.

CaughtOffside show the picture of the two walking the streets of Manchester before heading out for dinner together.

The two are teammates for Portugal and both played key roles in their country’s progression to the quarter finals of Euro 2024 this summer.

Cancelo spent last season on loan at FC Barcelona but he is currently back with City’s squad as the Catalans have so far failed to agree a deal to bring him back to the Camp Nou. The fullback is unlikely to play any role in the Community Shield however.

Fernandes on the other hand, despite only returning to training last week, is likely to be involved in the match tomorrow.

The Portuguese international always seem available for club and country and it is hard to imagine he will accept not being involved in spite of it potentially being his first action of pre-season.

The spotting of the pair before the rivals’ match will certainly irritate some more traditional fans.

United legend Roy Keane has spoken out in the past over how he hates to see rival players greeting each other and smiling and hugging when preparing to face one another on the pitch.

However times have certainly changed.

It is a fact that Manchester United, Liverpool, Manchester City and Everton players all tend to live very close to one another, often in the same exclusive villages such as Alderley Edge.

In addition, when living abroad, they will often be attracted to the company of their fellow countrymen and not pay so much attention to the fact they play for rivals.

Knowing the competitive mentality Bruno Fernandes has, it is hard to imagine he would be divulging any secrets to the enemy just 48 hours before kick off anyway!
