Arsenal are reportedly prepared to step up their efforts to sign Espanyol star Joan Garcia before next week’s deadline, as per the transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

After strengthening the backline by signing Riccardo Calafiori, the Gunners have agreed on a deal in principle with Real Sociedad to purchase Mikel Merino to reinforce the midfield department.

Moreover, it has been widely suggested that the North London club are keen on purchasing a new prolific goal-scorer and it remains to be seen whether they eventually make a swoop for anyone before the deadline.

However, it seems the goalkeeping department is an area where movement could happen over the next few days as Aaron Ramsdale is expected to leave the club after failing to find regular game-time last term. Ajax Amsterdam and Wolverhampton Wanderers have expressed their interest in signing him.

Now, writing in the Daily Briefing, Romano has reported that Arsenal have identified Garcia as the primary target to replace Ramsdale and they have already agreed on personal terms with him.

Garcia to Arsenal
The journalist further claims that the North London club will accelerate their efforts to sign Garcia after letting Ramsdale leave and agreeing on a deal in principle with Espanyol won’t be an issue.

Romano wrote:

“Arsenal already have an agreement with Joan Garcia to replace Ramsdale if he leaves. The Espanyol goalkeeper, 23, won the Olympics final with Spain this summer, and he has an agreement on a contract with Arsenal.

“Now it’s down to a club-to-club agreement, but that’s not going to be a problem from what I’m hearing, so when Ramsdale leaves, they will be ready with an official bid for Garcia, this is the idea.”

The 23-year-old has a £25m release clause in his contract so Arsenal will have to splash a sizable amount of money to secure his signature, considering he would be the second choice option to David Raya.

Garcia enjoyed a stellar campaign last term, guiding his team to gain promotion. Additionally, he was part of the Spanish national team who won the Gold medal in the Olympics but he didn’t play any of the games.

The youngster is a talented player and could be a shrewd acquisition for the North London club if they purchase him.
