Arsenal could now be one step closer towards achieving the three player plan Mikel Arteta seemingly put in place at the start of the summer.

Whilst Arsenal will always stay alert to market opportunities, Arteta reportedly wanted to sign a left-sided defender as well as a new midfielder and forward.

In terms of those opportunities, an early summer bid for Benjamin Sesko has to fall into that category.

Arsenal weren’t necessarily thought to be looking for a striker, sources felt as if a winger to improve squad depth was more likely to arrive.

But either way, Arsenal made their move for Sesko, who eventually decided to stay in the Bundesliga for another year.

Instead, Arsenal are now linked with Raheem Sterling, a move that would be just as controversial as Kai Havertz arriving in north London.

That being said, Mikel Merino is evidently the midfielder who Arteta has chosen, and according to reports in Spain, his announcement could be very imminent.
