‘First person we look to’: Aaron Ramsdale says 23-year-old is the best trainer at Arsenal; he’s ‘always on it’
Aaron Ramsdale has told Peter Crouch on Around The Block that Martin Odegaard is the best trainer at Arsenal, while he praised the Norwegian as a leader.
Odegaard was one of the standout candidates when Mikel Arteta was looking to appoint a new permanent captain in the summer. He had previously worn the armband.
Granit Xhaka has previously been captain. And Kieran Tierney would have surely been a more serious contender were it not for his frustrating injury record. But Odegaard would have got the nod for many.
Odegaard the best Arsenal trainer
He is a class act on the pitch. And he is also the leader for his national team. Certainly, giving Odegaard the captaincy has proved to be an inspired call from Mikel Arteta.
And Ramsdale has provided a further insight into how Odegaard sets the standard at London Colney as he was asked to name the best trainer at the club.
“Martin Odegaard’s always on it,” he told Crouch on Around The Block. “He’s a modern-day captain. He’s probably one of the first five in the building and the last five out.
“But then, on the pitch, he’s never going to hide or shrink from a challenge. So that’s the first person we look to.”
In hindsight, it really does appear that Arsenal signing Odegaard was a major moment in the club’s recent past. Obviously, he had not had the easiest time with Real Madrid.
But he was a superstar name after the way his career had began. So it was a huge statement that Arsenal managed to bring him to the Emirates at a time when there was so much work to do.
They have since signed a couple of other superstars. And Arsenal appear to be a completely different team to the one Odegaard joined when he initially signed on loan.
He has more than played his part in elevating Arteta’s side to another level. And he is still only 23 years of age. It is extremely exciting to think about where Arsenal may go during the duration of Odegaard’s captaincy.
