Manchester United came from behind to beat Brentford 2-1 at Old Trafford. Here are our player ratings from the game.

(A score of 6 is around average)

Andre Onana 8 – His distribution was excellent today! Some of his long balls kickstarted United’s attacks and he should have perhaps had an assist.

Diogo Dalot 7 – Solid defending and should have found the back of the net after Onana found him with a brilliant ball. Recovered well after losing Ethan Pinnock for Brentford’s opener.

Matthijs de Ligt 7 – A warrior! Could have easily elected not to continue after he suffered a head injury that led to a lot of bleeding but he went on and kept the Brentford attackers silent. Came up with a number of very crucial blocks and interceptions.

Jonny Evans 6 – Did his job and guided De Ligt well.

Lisandro Martinez 6 – Much better from him, especially in a largely unfamiliar left-back position. Filled in well on that part of the pitch.

Casemiro 5 – Lost the ball on a number of occasions, either by being dispossessed or through some reckless passing. Seem determined to score today as evidenced by the sheer number of shots he took from outside the box but nothing really required Mark Flekken to swing into immediate action.

Christian Eriksen 7 – Kept things moving in the middle of the park. In the absence of Kobbie Mainoo, he brought some much-needed control and United got better in the second half as a result. Also produced some brilliant balls over the top to Garnacho. Should have scored himself in the first half but he sent his effort well over the bar.

Bruno Fernandes 6 – Didn’t do much overall but came up with an incredible assist for Hojlund’s goal when he flicked the ball into the path of the Danish striker.

Marcus Rashford 9 – Sensational performance! Even when United were on top, he was still great and was United’s primary source of threat – whether on the right or on the left. Produced a wonderful assist for Garnacho’s goal. Brentford found it hard to deal with him and the only thing that was missing was getting on the score sheet.

Alejandro Garnacho 8 – His goal immediately after the restart sparked United into life. He wasted some good chances before that but made amends. Kept trying and ran riot from the left.

Rasmus Hojlund 8 – One of his best performances in a United shirt. Held up the ball well, linked up play and capped it all off by grabbing the winning goal.

Substitutes
Joshua Zirkzee 5 – Missed one or two very good chances when he came on.

Victor Lindelof 6 – Got United over the line after replacing Jonny Evans.

Manuel Ugarte 6 – Same as Lindelof.

Noussair Mazraoui 6 – On the pitch for a very limited period. Great to see him return to action way ahead of schedule.

Erik ten Hag 7 – United didn’t start well but credit to him for inspiring the players in the second period of proceedings. The victory will undoubtedly relieve some of the pressure that was mounting on him and his coaching staff
