“Watching Man United’s game yesterday, I thank God we’ve played them before Ruud van Nistelrooy came in, He’s a very good coach and he has shown his capabilities with the decision to suspend those TWO players…Their game against Chelsea will be a work over, I come in peace”: Former Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp reveals why Ruud van Nistelrooy’s new tactics is too dangerous for other teams to face, warned Chelsea ahead of Sunday game
Manchester United midfielder Casemiro led the way as the Red Devils beat Leicester City in the Carabao Cup fourth round.
Prior to Manchester United’s match with Leicester City, former player Gary Neville labelled Casemiro as one of the club’s worst two signings of all time. The other being Antony.
Casemiro is used to criticism and is not letting it affect him. His performance in Manchester United’s Carabao Cup victory showed he is capable of more than people give him credit for.
Casemiro’s wonder strike
Casemiro’s opening goal against Leicester had most of Old Trafford doing a double-take. Did that really fly into the top corner?
It was an example of the quality the Brazilian possesses when he can get forward. Many of his best moments for Manchester United have been when he ends up in the final third, and not his defensive one.
Casemiro scored his second goal after thumping in from a goalmouth scramble after his earlier effort was cleared. He was sharpest first and second time to the ball, and made Leicester pay.
David de Gea reacts
One player jettisoned under former manager Erik ten Hag was long-serving goalkeeper, David de Gea.
And the Spaniard was paying attention to how United got on after the Dutchman’s sacking, and responded to Casemiro’s performance.
Underneath the Brazilian’s Instagram post, he wrote: “Stricker?”, the Spanish spelling of ‘Striker’, in response to his goalscoring.
Casemiro scored the final goal under Erik ten Hag too, and has always given his all. The problem has been that the manager’s tactics often let him down, or at times, he was shunted to fill in as a makeshift centre-back.
The Brazilian is also not the same defensive enforcer he once was – but as he showed against Leicester – he has plenty left to offer, at the other end.
