Manchester United fans criticized Joshua Zirkzee for a social media post he made following his brief appearance in the 1-1 draw with Chelsea.
In Ruud van Nistelrooy’s second game as interim manager after Erik ten Hag’s dismissal, United took the lead in the 70th minute with a penalty from Bruno Fernandes, only for Moises Caicedo to equalize for Chelsea four minutes later.
Late in the game, van Nistelrooy substituted Zirkzee for Rasmus Hojlund in the 84th minute. Zirkzee, who has scored only once since his £36.5 million summer move from Bologna, had an opportunity shortly after coming on but struggled to beat Wesley Fofana due to a lack of pace, missing the chance.
Following the match, Zirkzee posted a photo of himself sprinting toward goal, despite failing to capitalize on the opportunity. Fans reacted on social media, labeling the post as “shameless.”
One fan on X wrote, “No way Zirkzee actually had the audacity to post this. What a shameless move.” Another joked, “Bro thinks he runs faster—we all saw the game.” A third added, “This guy has no shame.”
Zirkzee has scored just one goal in 14 appearances across all competitions this season, with United currently sitting in 13th place in the league.
Van Nistelrooy, who will manage United for two more games before Ruben Amorim takes over, commended his players’ effort, saying, “Overall, it was a very good performance. The players fought for every inch of the pitch. We created chances and could have scored another to win. It’s disappointing we couldn’t get the win, but the effort was there.”
