‘I’d stake my house on now’: Rio Ferdinand makes Arsenal prediction after win; also makes claim about Newcastle
Rio Ferdinand has told his YouTube channel that he would now put his house on Arsenal finishing in the top-four this season, while he could also see Newcastle United breaking in with the race wide open.
The Gunners continue to silence their doubters as they remain the pace-setters in the Premier League. Mikel Arteta’s side sit two points clear of Manchester City after thrashing Nottingham Forest 5-0 at the Emirates on Sunday.
Obviously, Arsenal fans may remain wary of getting carried away. Manchester City have looked outrageously good at times. And it has been some time since the Gunners have challenged for the title.
Ferdinand backs Arsenal in top-four race, and has sneaky feeling for Newcastle
Certainly, a top-four spot looks to be there for the taking. And Ferdinand believes that they will indeed book their return to the Champions League ahead of next season.
He also hinted that he could see Eddie Howe’s side upsetting the apple cart.
“It’ll be Arsenal and Man City, Man United are the three ones I’d put my house on now. And then, the fourth one I can’t pick. Newcastle could come in there and take it,” he told his YouTube channel.
The Magpies are certainly staking a claim to finish in the top-four right now. Newcastle have been in amazing form, winning five and drawing one of their last six.
In that run, they have scored 16 goals and conceded just three times.
No side in the Premier League have conceded fewer goals this season than Newcastle. And only the three teams above them have managed to find the back of the net more often.
They are something of a wildcard for the rest of the season. Of course, they have the potential to do something special in January when the window opens again. And they have barely seen club record signing Alexander Isak.
The race is wide open right now. And Ferdinand clearly thinks that they could pip Tottenham to a top-four spot this season.
