Manchester United seem to have outlined a blockbuster plan for the upcoming summer transfer window. The Red Devils have already finalized the signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolves but that just seems to be the start.
The last couple of seasons have been very poor, considering the club’s historical stature. Erik ten Hag and later Ruben Amorim have struggled to extract results from the squad and huge revamp is on the cards in the coming months.
One of the biggest issues that Man Utd faced last summer was the lack of a prolific striker. Rasmus Hojlund has struggled to be consistent since his move to the English club while Joshua Zirkzee is not a natural number nine.
One player that Man Utd have been linked with extensively, in recent days, is Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt. Now, as per Foot Mercato, the Red Devils have now accelerated and are advancing in talks to sign the talented French striker.
Liverpool and Chelsea also remain in the race to sign the ex-PSG star but Man Utd are looking to race past them and secure Ekitike’s signature. The 22-year-old has followed in a long list of strikers that have impressed for Frankfurt.
Ekitike has 48 games across all competitions, scoring 22 goals and providing 12 assists. He has a contract with the Bundesliga club until 2029 and Frankfurt hold all the power in negotiations. Thus, Man Utd need to be wary of this pursuit.
While there is no doubt that Ekitike is hugely talented and has the potential to become one of the best players in the world in his position, this might be too huge a gamble for the Red Devils to take at this stage of their project.
Ruben Amorim needs a more prolific striker in the prime years of his career, rather than an up-and-coming talent and thus, Man Utd would be better off passing on this Ekitike opportunity.
It remains to be seen how the club goes about this particular pursuit this summer.
