DEAL COMPLETED: Arsenal completes another major transfer signing as PLAYMAKER completes medical to sign six-years deal with the Gunners- Announcement will be made in the next few hours
After a fairly quiet start to the summer, Arsenal are now ramping up their transfer business and new sporting director Andrea Berta is beginning to show his worth.
Over the last few days, Arsenal seem to be accelerating in deals to sign Brentford’s Christian Norgaard and Valencia’s Cristhian Mosquera.
Arsenal also expect to sign Kepa Arrizabalaga from Bournemouth imminently and Mikel Arteta’s squad depth is looking strong ahead of next season.
But fans in N5 will be forgiven for being slightly more concerned about the players who Berta will immediately sign for Arteta’s starting eleven.
Arsenal want a striker, a left winger and a defensive midfielder — and they’re making progress in pursuit of all three.
Martin Zubimendi will officially join Arsenal in the ‘coming days’
That being said, it’s widely understood that Arsenal have agreed to sign Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad to solve their number six issue for next season.
Zubimendi isn’t officially an Arsenal player just yet but there are already reports that he’s chosen the number 36 shirt at the Emirates.
That being said, reliable Spanish outlet AS are now reporting that Zubimendi is set to say ‘goodbye’ to his Real Sociedad teammates in the coming days.
TBR Football recently reported that Arsenal will pay more than Zubimendi’s release clause to finalise a deal — they’ve agreed a £54m fee in order to pay in installments.
And Real Sociedad now expect that Zubimendi’s move to Arsenal will be ‘official’ in the coming days.
According to the information, Zubimendi’s farewell will come before Real Sociedad boss Sergio Francisco leads his first pre-season training session on July 7.
Therefore, Zubimendi should be signed in time to quickly return to Spain with Arsenal on their upcoming pre-season training camp, one that precludes the Gunners’ trip to Asia.
Christian Norgaard is the perfect partner for Martin Zubimendi at Arsenal
Irrespective of Thomas Partey’s Arsenal departure, Zubimendi was coming in to be first-choice under Arteta.
Stylistically Zubimendi is more similar to the departing Jorginho, but he will predominantly appear as Partey’s replacement owing to his prominent squad role.
But in terms of back-up, Norgaard should provide excellent cover and guidance for the Spaniard in the Premier League.
Arsenal are close to signing Norgaard and their deal shouldn’t be understated — Berta is signing a 31-year-old experienced Premier League captain for a bargain fee.
And whilst Arsenal are still working to sign a striker, fans in north London should be quietly confident that the club is in safe hands under former Atletico Madrid mastermind Berta.
