Arsenal are close to finalising a move for Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres after taking the final steps in their negotiations, according to reports from David Ornstein on The Athletic.
A deal in principle has been reached between both clubs, with Arsenal set to pay a fixed fee of £54.8 million for the striker.
The total package also includes £8.6 million in performance-related add-ons, which could bring the final figure to over £63 million.
The player’s agent has also agreed to waive his commission to help speed up the transfer process and ensure the move happens smoothly.
Mikel Arteta has long been searching for a recognised striker to strengthen his attack, and Gyokeres has been his top priority.
The Gunners are now pushing to complete the formalities and secure his signature as quickly as possible.
Arteta gets his man as Arsenal remain busy
The 27-year-old Swedish forward has chosen Arsenal over several other clubs who showed interest in signing him this summer.
He believes in the project at the Emirates and is eager to join Arteta’s side ahead of the new campaign.
Arsenal have already confirmed three signings in this window, having brought in Kepa Arrizabalaga, Martin Zubimendi and Christian Nørgaard.
The addition of Gyokeres will further strengthen a squad that is expected to challenge strongly in the Premier League next season.
Gyokeres made the move to Sporting CP from Coventry City in 2023 and has since become one of Europe’s most talked-about forwards.
He enjoyed a remarkable 2023/24 season in Portugal, scoring an outstanding 54 goals in 52 matches across all competitions.
His goals helped Sporting lift both the league title and the domestic cup in what was a historic double-winning campaign.
Arteta sees him as the perfect fit for Arsenal’s frontline, offering physical presence, sharp movement, and a proven eye for goal.
The manager has been keen on signing a true centre-forward who can lead the line and offer a consistent goal threat.
If all goes to plan, Gyokeres could be unveiled soon as Arsenal’s latest summer arrival.
