‘Absolutely everywhere’: Micah Richards left amazed by 25-year-old Arsenal player’s work-rate in Chelsea win
Micah Richards has told Match of the Day 2 that he was left amazed by Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus’ work-rate during the win over Chelsea.
The Gunners picked up an impressive win 1-0 at Stamford Bridge yesterday thanks to Gabriel Magalhaes’ second-half goal.
Mikel Arteta’s men dominated for most of the game and could have scored more than one on another day.
Jesus missed a glorious chance in the first-half after meeting Gabriel Martinelli’s brilliant cross. The Brazilian couldn’t quite get enough on the header to steer it past Edouard Mendy.
The 25-year-old has now failed to score in his last five Premier League appearances for the Gunners. But Richards says Jesus brings a lot more than just goals to the Arsenal side.
Richards left amazed by Jesus
Speaking on Match of the Day 2 last night, Richards was seriously impressed with Jesus’ work-rate in the London derby yesterday.
“Jesus was absolutely everywhere today. He was on the left, on the right, down the centre,” he said.
“It’s the moves that he makes and he works so hard. At times they will need him to put the ball in the back of the net, he started the season on fire, but when you have other people chipping in it’s exactly what they need right now.”
Jesus will be desperate to get back amongst the goals for Arsenal but he is such a pivotal part of the side even when he isn’t scoring.
The former Manchester City man sets the tone for the Gunners’ press and links up play brilliantly.
He also brings the best out of Martinelli and Bukayo Saka, who have both raised their level of performances since he arrived.
Jesus seems to be the missing piece of the puzzle for Mikel Arteta’s side at the moment and the goals will start to flow for the striker soon enough.
He’s continuously getting in threatening positions for the Gunners but it just isn’t quite happening for him right now.
But Arteta will undoubtedly be delighted with Jesus’ performances and feel confident that he will soon rediscover his scoring touch.
