Arsenal have completed most of their summer transfer business but there’s one notable deal yet to be completed. Some fans view Eberechi Eze as the missing piece of the Gunners jigsaw, but manager Mikel Arteta is running out of time to add the England international to his squad.

Arteta’s Arsenal have been busy in their first summer window with Andrea Berta in charge of transfers. Kepa Arrizabalaga, Viktor Gyokeres, Noni Madueke, Cristhian Mosquera, Christian Norgaard and Martin Zubimendi have all arrived in North London, at a combined cost of more than £200million.

A move for Eze would see that sum climb even higher, with the Crystal Palace star available for a £68m release clause. However, that clause expires on Friday.

According to The Guardian, Spurs aren’t expected to bid that much for Eze after already spent more than £100m on the likes of Mohammed Kudus, Kevin Danso and Mathys Tel. The same publication claims Eze, who spent time in Arsenal’s academy as a youngster, would favour a move to Mikel Arteta’s side.

It may be the case that a £68m bid still gets the job done after the release clause expires. If Arsenal want to make sure, though, they’ll likely need to raise funds through player sales in the next two days.

A small amount has already come in this summer, with Nuno Tavares and Marquinhos both departing after spending last season out on loan. Fabio Vieira is also expected to depart, with Stuttgart keen, but there’s been some haggling over a transfer fee for the former Porto star.

Jakub Kiwior and Oleksandr Zinchenko could both find themselves elsewhere if a suitable offer arrives, while there have been reports of interest in third choice goalkeeper Karl Hein. Leandro Trossard is the player most likely to fetch a healthy fee, though, despite being in the final year of his contract.

I’m happy, I think having everybody involved at their best, that’s what we want and then we’re going to have to start with 11 players and other players are going to have to impact the game,” Arteta said after Arsenal beat Athletic Club in their final pre-season friendly.

“At the end they’re going to have to earn it on that pitch with every day, with their behaviour, the quality and the connection that they show with the team and it’s exactly what we need.

“We never had the demands that we have this season in terms of the competition we have to play and the amount of games already that these guys have to play. So it’s very much needed, nothing different to any of the top teams in this country, nothing different.”
