Manchester United have been in search of a midfielder to reinforce the squad as for now, they have only strengthened the attacking department.
If reports in the media are anything to go by then Man Utd have been serious about signing Fermin Lopez from Barcelona and even submitted a bid for him.
According to Sport, the Red Devils and Chelsea tabled dizzying offers of around £69.3million (80 million euros) to lure the Spanish international from the La Liga champions.
The Catalan outlet have mentioned that Barca were seriously considering the sale of the midfielder as that would have solved all their salary cap issues.
However, German manager, Hansi Flick, used his power to stop the transfer.
Fermin did not regularly start for the former Bayern Munich coach last season but whenever given the chance, he always impressed.
The 22-year-old versatile talent, who has effectively featured in the CM and AM positions, started 12 games in the league last term, and directly contributed in 11 goals (5 goals and 6 assists).
In all competitions, the 2-capped international found the net 8 times and also provided 10 assists.
Manchester United lack quality and depth as far as the creative midfield is concerned. Last season, apart from captain, Bruno Fernandes, the midfielders failed to regularly contribute in the attacking third.
Kobbie Mainoo featured in 25 games for the Red Devils in the Premier League last season, and he neither scored a goal nor provided any assist.
On the other hand, Mason Mount, who spent majority of the time on the treatment table, only scored one goal (no assist), in 16 league appearances.
So, a quality player like Fermin is what Man Utd need, but it looks likely that he’ll stay at Barca.
