Former Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand is urging a key change for the team.
There is not a lot to like about Manchester United right now. Even when the team win, it feels unsustainable.
United have not recorded back-to-back Premier League wins under Ruben Amorim since his appointment last November.
Former player Rio Ferdinand believes it is time for Amorim to make an important change.
Move Bruno Fernandes
Manchester United chose to keep Bruno Fernandes in the summer amid heavy interest from the Saudi Pro League.
It was a popular move to keep the four-time player of the year at the club, but by time the summer transfer window ended, the decision looked a little less wise.
United rejected the chance for a huge pay day, and were left with an unbalanced squad, with a surplus of number 10s and not enough midfielders.
Ruben Amorim’s solution was to move Fernandes back into a deeper role to accommodate his teammates.
But six games into the Premier League season, United have only won two matches and are slumped in the bottom half of the table again.
Former star Rio Ferdinand wants Fernandes to move back into his preferred position, saying this is what everybody wants.
Ferdinand told his YouTube channel: “You’ve got Bruno who actually can be in the 10 role where he has produced astronomical numbers consistently since he’s been at the football club.
“I don’t think it’s rocket science. I just think everyone’s probably looking at it and thinking the same thing
Bruno Fernandes change means sacrifice
Ruben Amorim has refused to make this change so far this season, including in the game away at Manchester City when both Mason Mount and Matheus Cunha were out injured.
United also have Bryan Mbeumo, Amad and Joshua Zirkzee who are capable of playing in the attacking role.
Fernandes is being moved back to accommodate others, when he is proven to be the team’s best player in this position.
Making a change would require Amorim to make a U-turn, while also leaving somebody out, but this is a sacrifice he should be prepared to make.
Fernandes has been accused of lacking defensive DNA to play the midfield position, while his presence in the team has also blocked Kobbie Mainoo, who has not started a Premier League game all season.
