Arsenal’s South American chief scout, Jonathan Vidallé, has joined the growing list of admirers of winger Darío Osorio.
Speaking to ADN Radio in Chile, as relayed by BolaVip, the Argentine talent spotter drew a bold comparison. Vidallé compared Osorio to 21-year-old FC Midtjylland winger and Argentina legend Ángel Di María.
“I see similarities with Di María when he started, because Osorio has that kind of intelligent winger profile. Skilful in one-on-one situations, knows how to cut inside and finish well,” Vidallé said.
The Arsenal scout. has spent over a decade overseeing the club’s recruitment in South America. He’s followed Osorio’s progress closely since his breakthrough at Universidad de Chile.
Going to Arsenal immediately was too big a step
Vidallé praised the player’s decision to take a measured step by joining the Danish league rather than making an early leap to one of Europe’s top competitions.
“Maybe he was missing something to make a bigger jump,” he admitted.
“Going to Arsenal would have been too big, too soon. Sometimes it’s better to go through leagues like Mexico, the Netherlands, Portugal or Denmark. It’s the right path to build confidence, develop all your strengths. Then see how far you can go, with the right mentality,” he said.
Osorio’s development in Denmark has indeed attracted attention across Europe. The winger has earned praise for his performances in the UEFA Europa League and for his consistent impact in the Superliga.
According to Vidallé, his choice to grow in a “second-tier” European environment shows maturity and a long-term view rarely seen at his age.
“He’s doing things well,” the Arsenal scout added. “It’s about learning step by step. Those who rush often get lost along the way. Osorio is following the right process.”
The Chilean international, whose contract with Midtjylland runs until mid-2028, continues to be one of South America’s most promising exports. And with praise coming from Arsenal’s top scout, the question now is when, not if, he will make his move to one of Europe’s elite clubs.
