FULL-TIME 1-2: FA finally Overturned Casemiro disallowed goal as PGMOL releases official statement this morning following the sanctions of the match officials by FIFA today
Manchester United had a goal ruled out for offside in the second-half of their Premier League trip to West Ham United after Casemiro was deemed to be offside.
Tomas Soucek’s opener put the Hammers ahead shortly after half-time following a quiet first-half. However, United thought they pulled level just 13 minutes later when Casemiro met Kobbie Mainoo’s cross.
However, the video assistant referee (VAR) checked the goal and it was overturned for offside. Replays showed that the Brazilian had strayed slightly offside as the cross came in.
The Premier League match centre wrote on X: “VAR checked the referee’s call of goal – and established that Casemiro was in an offside position and recommended that the goal was disallowed.”
Michael Carrick’s men came into the game on the back of four straight wins against Manchester City, Arsenal, Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur. However, they travelled to the London Stadium to face a West Ham team in good form under Nuno Espirito Santo.
After a quiet first-half, the Hammers took the lead when Soucek converted from close distance after he squeezed in between Kobbie Mainoo and Casemiro.
United struggled to find a way back into the match, with very few real opportunities created after Luke Shaw’s effort from a Bruno Fernandes corner was cleared off the line.
However, they found a reprieve deep into stoppage time as Benjamin Sesko came off the bench to keep United in the top four of the Premier League with a fantastic flicked finish to break West Ham hearts.
