Joe Cole has expressed fears over his former Chelsea potentially losing out on star players like Cole Palmer amid reports Manchester United are monitoring the forward’s situation at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea are among the teams competing with Manchester United to secure qualification for the Champions League, despite struggling under Liam Rosenior over the past two months.
Michael Carrick will be hoping that United can get back to winning ways when they take on rivals Leeds at Old Trafford in a Monday night fixture on April 13.
As things stand, United are sitting third in the Premier League table, three places clear of Chelsea with seven more points than the Blues.

There have also been reports of Cole Palmer being unhappy at Chelsea amid claims he is homesick and missing life in Manchester, where he grew up.
Palmer is a player of interest for United, but it’s a situation they are monitoring due to the England international being tied down to a long-term contract.

Former Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole has been discussing his fears for Stamford Bridge, pinning lots of the blame on the owners.
Cole fears that clubs like United will be able to convince top players like Palmer unless things improve under Rosenior.
When asked about the current group of players being unhappy, Cole told The Dressing Room podcast: “They’re frustrated. And you get into that position now, where the best players are going to start going…
“If you’re Cole Palmer, you’re thinking, I could go and play anywhere in the world. Like, what’s happening here? Do you know what I mean?”
He also said: “Now the new ownership group has come in and they spent a lot of money initially, wasted a lot of money, in my opinion, on not getting the right players in through the door.”
“Over £1billion has been spent on the premise that these lads will develop and become players, and some of them will become great players.
“But the Chelsea fans are upset because they don’t feel like they’re competing, and they’re not really.
“You’re not buying players to win games of football, you’re buying players as an asset and I don’t think that ever works.
“You’re running the club like a business and the fans know when they’re being lied to, they know when they’re effectively being duped.
“Do you know what I mean? If the owners come out and say we’re going to buy younger players and balance the books and if it [success] happens it happens.
“The fans won’t like it, but at least it’s honest. But Chelsea are not trying to compete with Manchester City and Arsenal, because you can’t. How can they compete with these signings? They can’t. Man City and Arsenal are streets ahead at the moment.”
Chelsea fans won’t like hearing this because Palmer remains one of their best players, despite not having as prolific a season as last year.

Sir Alex Ferguson wanted to sign Joe Cole
Cole previously revealed the lengths Sir Alex Ferguson went to sign him as a teenager.
The former England international went on to play for West Ham, Chelsea and Liverpool – but never United, despite multiple attempts from Ferguson.
When Cole was a teenager, Fergie made him an offer that was difficult to reject.
In 2024, Cole explained his decision on the John Obi Mikel podcast, saying: “This is probably why Fergie is the best we’ve seen. He found me as a kid, around 14 or 15, then invited me up to Manchester United.
“You go up, they took me out for dinner with my mum and dad. I met Eric Cantona, Ryan Giggs and all the players. They really wined and dined me.
“He actually offered me the chance to come with the team before the 1994 FA Cup final against Chelsea and walk out on the pitch.
“As a 13-year-old boy, that’s a dream. But I’d already decided to sign for West Ham.”
