Arsenal have reportedly made calls to sign RB Leipzig forward Yan Diomande, as per transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
Despite winning the Premier League title last term, the Gunners are prioritising revamping the left flank this summer as Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard displayed average performances.
After cashing-in on the Belgian, the North London club are closing in on a deal to sign Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge. However, it appears Mikel Arteta’s side want a new marquee acquisition to upgrade the left side.
Initially, they wanted to purchase Morgan Rogers, but Chelsea have managed to win the race. So, Arsenal have been forced to explore alternative options.
Now, on his YouTube channel, Romano states that Arsenal are interested in Diomande and have already made calls in ‘recent days’ to learn about his current situation.
Apart from the Emirates clubs, other teams have also been making contacts behind the scenes to enquire about his availability. However, Paris Saint-Germain are currently clear favourites to seal the deal.
Les Parisiens agreed on personal terms with the Ivory Coast international several weeks ago, but they have been struggling to reach an agreement with Leipzig.
Diomande to Arsenal
Having moved to Red Bull Arena from Leganés last summer, Diomande still has a contract until 2030. So, Leipzig aren’t in any rush to sell him this year and want around €130m[110m].
Diomande is a right-footed, technically gifted, versatile winger. He is comfortable on either flank, quick, can dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas, and is efficient in creating opportunities for fellow attackers.
The 19-year-old enjoyed a stellar debut campaign in the Bundesliga last term, scoring 13 goals and registering nine assists in 36 appearances across all competitions.
After proving his worth in club football, the youngster has secured his place in the Ivory Coast national team’s starting line-up.
Diomande is a top-class player and possesses the potential to become one of the best forwards in the world. So, he would be a great coup for Arsenal should they purchase him.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually manage to secure his services by defeating Les Parisiens in this race.
