Everything you need to know about Kobbie Mainoo’s injury and return date

Kobbie Mainoo’s World Cup is over after England concluded their campaign in North America with a thrilling 6-4 win over France in the Bronze Medal Match.

Mainoo was absent from the squad for the contest with The Football Association saying the Manchester United man was injured.
The midfielder did not play a single minute during the tournament as England came through six matches before being knocked out 2-1 by Argentina in the semi-finals.

Mainoo earned his place in the squad thanks to a strong second half of last season for United under Michael Carrick, with the 21-year-old having been frozen out under Ruben Amorim
Speaking after England’s win, Three Lions boss Thomas Tuchel offered an update on Mainoo’s issue, saying: “Kobbie was injured in the last training session yesterday morning. He had a sharp pain in the back within the training and he was not ready to play.”

Before news of Mainoo’s injury broke, former United midfielder Nicky Butt had suggested the United man should refuse to play against France in response to his lack of minutes at the World Cup

Mainoo will now be afforded at least three weeks off before he returns to United ahead of the new Premier League season
