‘Fantastic’ player now very close to leaving Arsenal and joining another Premier League side – journalist

Arsenal defender is now very close to leaving the club to join Fulham when the January transfer window opens.

Journalist Alex Crook has tweeted that the Portugal international’s time at the Emirates Stadium is likely to soon be over.

Bernd Leno made the move across London to Craven Cottage and now it seems Cedric is set to do the same when the market reopens.

Fulham were linked with Cedric during the summer yet he stayed at the club but has since found gametime hard to come by.

Ben White has established himself at right-back, with Takehiro Tomiyasu offering hugely accomplished cover and competition.

If they both stay fit, Cedric is not really needed and it is better for him at this stage of his career if he can go and play regularly somewhere.

Of course, if Arsenal now go and get injuries at right-back, some may look back on any decision to let Cedric go, but there is only so long you can let committed, diligent professionals sit around as cover without playing very often.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta has lauded Cedric’s attitude this year and the defender has also been labelled as ‘fantastic‘, while he seems to be a popular member of the squad.

It is not clear how much any transfer fee will be, but given that the switch is reportedly this close 11 days before the window opens, there is still plenty of time for all that to come out.

Cedric could well be turning his back on the chance to be a Premier League title winner, although he would need a significant increase in gametime after the World Cup to qualify for a medal.
