BREAKING: Club Doctors confirmed William Saliba will…….see more

Arsenal continue to monitor the fitness of William Saliba as the French defender remains sidelined with a back injury sustained during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Saliba has not featured for Arsenal this season after aggravating the problem while representing France. The centre-back was forced off during France’s World Cup semi-final against Spain after playing through discomfort during the tournament. Following further examinations after his return to London, Arsenal confirmed that he would require an extended period of rehabilitation.

The injury has been a significant concern for Mikel Arteta, particularly because Saliba has established himself as one of the most important members of Arsenal’s defensive unit. His absence has forced the manager to rely on alternative defensive combinations at the beginning of the campaign.

There was some concern that Saliba could require surgery, which would potentially have resulted in a much longer absence. However, Arsenal confirmed that the defender would not need an operation and instead would undergo a carefully managed rehabilitation programme.

Arteta has remained cautious whenever asked about Saliba’s return. The Arsenal manager recently explained that the defender’s recovery was progressing positively, but the club still needed to respect the healing process before increasing his workload.

The lack of a specific return date means Arsenal cannot simply assume that Saliba will be available for a particular fixture. His recovery will depend on how his body responds as the medical team gradually increases the intensity of his rehabilitation.

For Arsenal, the timing of Saliba’s return could be extremely important. The club faces a demanding schedule involving Premier League, Champions League and domestic cup matches, making defensive depth particularly valuable.

During Saliba’s absence, Arsenal have used players including Gabriel Magalhães and summer signing Ezri Konsa in central defence. Cristhian Mosquera has also been involved as Arteta manages his defensive options. Reports have indicated that Arsenal recruited Konsa partly to provide additional defensive security while Saliba and other defenders work their way back to full fitness.

Despite the setback, there has been encouragement surrounding Saliba’s rehabilitation. Arsenal included the Frenchman in their Champions League squad, providing an indication that the club expects him to play a role in the competition once he is medically ready.

However, supporters will have to remain patient. Arteta has made it clear that the priority is ensuring Saliba fully recovers rather than rushing him back before his body is ready.

Saliba’s importance to Arsenal means his eventual return will attract considerable attention. The French international has developed into a key figure at the heart of the Gunners’ defence, and his pace, positioning, composure and ability to defend one-on-one situations have made him a major part of Arteta’s defensive plans.

For now, Arsenal’s message remains one of caution. Saliba is recovering, his progress has reportedly been positive, but there is still no confirmed date for his return to competitive action.

The Gunners will therefore continue without one of their leading defenders until the medical team is satisfied that he is ready to return. The priority will be completing his rehabilitation properly and avoiding any setback that could prolong his absence.

As Arsenal’s season continues, every positive development in Saliba’s recovery will be welcomed by Arteta and the club’s supporters, who will be hoping to see the French defender back on the pitch as soon as it is safe for him to return.
