Arsenal youngster Myles Lewis-Skelly could be handed a starting opportunity against Liverpool today as Mikel Arteta considers his options ahead of the Premier League showdown at Anfield.

The Gunners are preparing for one of their biggest tests of the season, with Liverpool expected to provide a difficult challenge on home soil. Arteta will need to make important decisions about his starting eleven, particularly with several players dealing with injuries and others unavailable.

Lewis-Skelly is among the players who could benefit from the situation. The versatile youngster has already demonstrated his ability to perform in different positions, and his technical quality could make him an important option for Arsenal.

According to reports surrounding the predicted line-up, Arteta could consider using the England international in midfield alongside Declan Rice. Such a decision would provide Arsenal with additional defensive protection while allowing the youngster to contribute to the team’s build-up play.

Lewis-Skelly’s ability to operate both in midfield and at left-back gives Arteta tactical flexibility. He is comfortable receiving possession under pressure, moving the ball forward and helping his teammates maintain control during difficult moments.

Facing Liverpool will require Arsenal’s midfielders to work extremely hard. The home side possess players capable of pressing aggressively, winning second balls and launching dangerous attacks whenever possession is recovered.

Having Lewis-Skelly in the starting eleven could help Arsenal deal with that pressure. His energy, composure and willingness to compete could become valuable qualities during the encounter.

The potential selection also comes at an important time for the youngster. Starting against a major Premier League opponent would provide another opportunity to demonstrate his development and convince Arteta that he deserves more regular involvement.

Arsenal will also need to manage the absence of several important players. Bukayo Saka remains unavailable with a thigh injury, while William Saliba is still dealing with a back problem. Max Dowman is suspended following his dismissal against Fleetwood Town.

Noni Madueke’s fitness has also been a concern, although the winger has been working towards returning to action. These issues could influence Arteta’s tactical decisions and make squad versatility particularly important.

Lewis-Skelly could therefore play a significant role if the manager decides to make changes to his midfield arrangement.

However, the youngster will face a difficult assignment if selected. Liverpool are expected to attack with intensity, and Arsenal must remain disciplined to prevent their opponents from creating dangerous opportunities.

Declan Rice would be expected to provide experience and defensive balance alongside him. The combination could allow Lewis-Skelly to contribute going forward without leaving too much space in front of the defence.

Arteta will also want his players to show a strong reaction after Arsenal’s disappointing Carabao Cup exit against Fleetwood Town. A positive performance at Anfield would help restore confidence and demonstrate that the team remains focused on its Premier League ambitions.

Liverpool, meanwhile, will be determined to take advantage of their home support and secure an important victory.

For Lewis-Skelly, the possibility of starting such an important fixture represents a major opportunity. The teenager has the ability and confidence to compete at a high level, but he will need to deliver a disciplined performance if selected.

Arsenal supporters will now wait for the official team announcement to discover whether Arteta has decided to trust the young midfielder from the beginning.

His potential inclusion could be one of the interesting selection decisions ahead of the meeting at Anfield.
