BREAKING: Arsenal now want league leaders’ £36m forward with ‘crazy’ pace; contract talks aren’t going to plan
Arsenal are interested in signing Serie A star Hirving Lozano, with La Repubblica in Italy reporting that Newcastle United are also admirers of the Napoli star.
Lozano’s future at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona is far from certain. His contract with the Serie A leaders expires at the end of next season. And La Repubblica reports that negotiations over fresh terms are not going to plan.
The report claims that the Mexico international could leave at the end of the season. And with that, there could be offers to come to the Premier League.
Arsenal and Newcastle want Hirving Lozano
La Repubblica reports that both Arsenal and Newcastle are keen on the 26-year-old. Meanwhile, there is said to be interest from the Bundesliga.
Napoli broke their club record to sign Lozano back in 2019, paying £36 million. And he has since gone on to score 30 goals and provide 16 assists in 134 games for the club.
He has only completed 90 minutes once in Serie A this season. But he has still managed to score three goals and provide three assists in 15 top-flight games.
Lozano has predominantly played on the right this season. But he appears to be most comfortable on the left flank, cutting in onto his stronger right foot.
Former Napoli boss Gennaro Gattuso described his pace as ‘crazy‘. So he would certainly have the potential to be an exciting signing. However, there is another side to his game.
Reports from ESPN in 2020 claimed that he was asked by Gattuso to leave a training session due to a lack of effort. So a move would be a potential gamble.
Both sides need further depth in the final third. And if they leave it until the summer to get new players in, perhaps they may take a little look at what is going on with Lozano.
