JUST IN: Premier League rival now hopeful they will sign ‘incredible’ player who has agreed contract with Arsenal
Arsenal are still favourites to sign Ukrainian international Mykhaylo Mudryk, but the Guardian reports that Chelsea are now hopeful of striking a deal for the Ukrainian after positive talks with Shakhtar Donetsk.
Mudryk’s future remains a key talking point in the January transfer window. It had appeared for some time that he was most likely to end up joining Mikel Arteta’s side if he made the switch to the Premier League.
The Guardian reports that the Gunners have now seen two bids for the £80 million-rated youngster rejected. The report suggests that Arsenal’s most recent offer was worth £44.2 million plus add-ons. Meanwhile, The Sun reported this week that they have already agreed a contract with the ‘incredible‘ starlet.
Chelsea hopeful of beating Arsenal to Mykhaylo Mudryk
Arteta’s men remain the favourites to strike a deal for Mudryk. But interestingly, the Guardian is now reporting that Chelsea are hopeful of snatching him from the Gunners’ grasp.
The report notes that the Blues have now held positive talks with Shakhtar. And they believe that an initial £60 million bid which includes £20 million in add-ons will be enough to sign the forward.
The Guardian suggests that Mudryk would probably pick Arsenal if given a choice between the two. But Chelsea are ready to press ahead with a bid to sign him after those discussions.
Arsenal fans now appear to be somewhat divided on the prospect of signing Mudryk. Some feel that he is absolutely perfect for Arteta’s side at a time when they do need greater depth in the final third.
Others however, seem to be less convinced given how talks have gone so far. Arsenal have made a reasonable bid for a player who is yet to prove himself in one of Europe’s biggest domestic leagues. He has, of course, shone in the Champions League.
It appears that some supporters are starting to feel that there may be better value on the market. But obviously, the prospect of seeing him rip things up at Chelsea will not be far away from Arsenal’s minds.
