‘They are interested’: David Ornstein says there’s another player who could arrive at Arsenal before Mudryk
Arsenal ARE interested in signing laliga star Joao Felix this month and could even look to sign the Portuguese star before they land Mykhaylo Mudryk.
That’s according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein anyway, who was speaking to NBC Sports live from Stamford Bridge last night.
Ornstein was discussing all things transfer related at Arsenal and Chelsea. As we know, both clubs are keen on Ukrainian star Mudryk. However, a deal isn’t close to being done, with Shakhtar holding out for huge money.
And speaking to NBC, Ornstein suggested that a move for Felix is in Arsenal’s sights and that it could even be done to take the load off the Mudryk pursuit.
“It will be interesting to see if Arsenal look to bring forward some business or get some other business done first,” Ornstein said.
“They are interested in Joao Felix at Atletico in a loan deal. If the numbers come down significantly from where they are now – and that’s why it’s not happening right now – then perhaps they’ll try and get that one in first. And that will take the pressure off them in the Mudryk pursuit.”
The Gunners have been linked with Felix for a few weeks now. The Atletico man is set to move on, after falling out of favour under Diego Simeone.
Our View: Felix would throw a spanner in the works for everyone
This is interesting from Ornstein here. The fact Arsenal might sign Felix to give themselves breathing room in the Mudryk effort seems a bold strategy.
It’s effectively the Gunners saying they won’t be held to ransom and have other irons in the fire should the Mudryk deal hit the buffers.
In an ideal world, Mikel Arteta gets both. But if he is to miss out on Mudryk after all this, then Joao Felix isn’t exactly a bad back up option.
