REPORTING LIVE: Arsenal now reportedly want to sign ‘magnificent’ winger who left Thierry Henry amazed by his skill this season
Arsenal now reportedly want to sign Napoli winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia – a player who left club legend Thierry Henry amazed by his skill this season.
The Gunners are flying high at the moment and moved eight-points above Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table yesterday.
Mikel Arteta’s side completely outclassed their rivals Tottenham and came away with a statement 2-0 win.
But Arsenal fans will be mindful of the fact that they still need reinforcements this month to ensure they maintain their place at the top of the pile.
Of course, Arsenal missed out on Mykhaylo Mudryk to their London rivals Chelsea over the weekend. And 90 Min claimed on Sunday that the Gunners could turn their attention to Kvaratskhelia as a result.
Kvaratskhelia left Henry amazed
Kvaratskhelia has been exceptional for Napoli this season and is quickly becoming one of the most exciting prospects in Europe.
The 21-year-old only signed for the Italian side over the summer, but he’s being watched closely by the biggest clubs across Europe already.
The Georgian winger’s performances in the Champions League have been particularly eye-catching as he caused Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side huge problems down the left-hand side back in September. And it led to him being praised by Henry, who admitted that was blown away by his skillset on CBS Sports.
“He had an amazing game. The way he put pressure. The desire he had, especially on the second goal,” Henry said after Napoli thrashed Liverpool 4-1.
“I saw a player that it wasn’t just about his skill, but his desire he had and the way he pushed the ball past Trent Alexander-Arnold or the way he put pressure on Gomez, was second to none. I like that he has the awareness to see where Zielinski is and we know what happened after that with the penalty. I thought it was the right decision.
“He’s been magnificent. The run and awareness. People will say ‘well what’s so difficult about that?’ Some people don’t see what’s happening on the field and his head was always up. This guy has that little contagious thing. This is why already, the Napoli fans are in love with him.
“Yes, you can be cocky. When you play like that you can be cocky. He delivered against Liverpool, as I said he’s contagious. He has been there for a minute and the Napoli fans love him already. He has heart and skills.” as quoted by HITC.
Despite their near-flawless performances so far this season, there are concerns over Arteta lacking the necessary depth to maintain their push for the title.
An injury to either Bukayo Saka or Gabriel Martinelli would be a huge blow when you look at Arteta’s back-up options.
Kvaratskhelia would undoubtedly be a brilliant signing for Arsenal but it seems unrealistic, especially this month. The winger only signed for the Serie A outfit last summer and Luciano Spalletti’s men are likely to demand a huge fee for their star player.
