‘Because He knows they’re winning the Premier League title’: Premier League Manager CONFESSED His star player who will become Free agent in the summer now wants to join Arsenal
Arsenal are now considered increasingly likely to make a contract offer to Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha.
That is according to a report from French outlet Foot Mercato, who have been covering Marseille’s interest in Zaha.
The French club are hoping to sign Zaha at the end of the season, with his Palace contract set to expire.
Contact has been made but Arsenal are ‘really hot’ in the race for Zaha’s signature.
It’s stated that an ‘inside source’ at Arsenal believes a contract offer from the Gunners is ‘increasingly serious’.
That would be a big problem for Marseille, who just can’t compete with Arsenal on a financial level.
Marseille may hope that a starring role can tempt Zaha, but the chance to stay in London may be too good to pass up.
Zaha, 30, has given great service to Palace but now wants to play in the Champions League, something Arsenal can certainly offer for next season.
Wilfried Zaha links bring Arsenal transfer policy under microscope
So much of this Arsenal regime has been about getting rid of big contracts and players in their 30’s.
Mesut Ozil and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang spring to mind, whilst the move for Willian was a famous mistake.
Edu and Mikel Arteta have focused on younger players; the likes of William Saliba, Gabriel Martinelli, Martin Odegaard, Gabriel Magalhaes, Aaron Ramsdale and Ben White.
Add in homegrown talents like Bukayo Saka and Arsenal have a young, vibrant team.
Arsenal do appear to want more proven quality though in order to take that leap to winning titles.
In January, we saw Arsenal snap up Leandro Trossard and Jorginho, two players with plenty of Premier League experience.
Zaha would fit a similar bill, and Arsenal may view him as a proven signing to help those younger players just like Trossard and Jorginho, without breaking the bank.
